The eCommerce Trifecta
Three big announcements this week… already. All in the eCommerce area.
1. American Express Takes on PayPal with Serve
2. eBay splashes $2.4bn for eCommerce services firm
3. Report: Google one step closer to mobile payments
The question is: how would you rank them? The market seems to believe that AmEx is for the Win, Google to Place, and the eBay deal is to Show.
The street believes eBay overpaid for GSI Commerce. (They probably did. A 51% premium seems a bit crazy.)
Most pundits think American Express is headed in just the right direction with Serve. (And, their strategy to waive consumer fees for the first six months is brilliant .)
Google marches on, but only gets 2nd place in Monday’s eCommerce Trifecta. They are rolling out “thousands” of NFC (near field communication) systems for mobile payments, but only in select cities.
However they finish, it is a great start for three Titans that see big value in eCommerce.
And they’re off!
